Here’s the Cubs’ lineup for the first Cactus League game Wednesday vs. the Dodgers: LF Alfonso Soriano, SS Ryan Theriot, 1B Derrek Lee, DH Micah Hoffpauir, C Geovany Soto, 2B Mike Fontenot, CF Reed Johnson, RF Richie Robnett, 3B Bobby Scales.

Also, the Venezuelan team is listing Cubs pitcher Carlos Zambrano as part of their World Baseball Classic team but Big Z is not going. “No, I’m staying here,” Zambrano said Wednesday.

Soriano has been running well this spring. When Lou Piniella was asked if Soriano could steal 40 bases again, he said, no, but didn’t think 30, 35 was out of the question.

I understand this is just the first spring training game but are we going to have to put up with Sori batting leadoff all year. There is nothing I like better than watching him strike out to start a game.

How ’bout when he hits a home run to lead off a game, yelrekbor? How do you feel about that?

The sad thing is that what, some 60+% of his homers are leadoff/solo shots…even at the 2 position he’s much more valuable. I never did understand how a guy batting in a different position changed his abilities so much. And to note: can I just say I’d love to here Brenley and Santo calling out double plays made by the Cajun Connection all year long, but what would be even better is if ESPN and Baseball Tonight picked up on that little alliteration from there college days…it’s not Tinkers to Evers To Chance…but it does have a nice ring to it…
