Monday quick hits
The Royals are playing at HoHoKam Park on Monday and insisted on using the designated hitter, so Milton Bradley will be the Cubs’ DH. Here’s the lineup: LF Alfonso Soriano, 2B Mike Fontenot, 1B Derrek Lee, DH Bradley, 3B Aramis Ramirez, RF Micah Hoffpauir, SS Aaron Miles, C Paul Bako, CF Joey Gathright.
Other news and notes:
- Lou Piniella asked hitting coach Gerald Perry to check the players’ hands and see if there were any blisters. Piniella isn’t happy with the lack of offense lately, and would like to see guys taking extra batting practice. No callouses to report.
- Piniella also would like to see the roster pared down soon. With the new faces in camp, it’s tough to develop good chemistry. Maybe one of the guys will have a team barbeque.
- If you’re in the Phoenix area Thursday, and want to see the Cubs, there are plenty of tickets available for their exhibition game against Team Japan. Game time is 1:05 p.m. Arizona time at HoHoKam.

Is the game on Thursday on TV or Radio?
Milton Bradley will be the Cubs’ DH
Anyone surprised by this? Milton “DH” Bradley is our secret weapon for interleague games.

There’s plenty of hitting just not from 2 top of the order regulars, (Derrek Lee .200, Alfonso Soriano .150), and two significant off-season pickups ( Aaron Miles .208 and Paul Bako .091). No less than 14 Cubs are hitting over .300 this spring.
Earlier Lou said he wanted to see more bat speed from Lee, Soriano and Ramirez. I’m guessing those three are the reason for the outburst.
I am going to spring training next week. What are the good Cubs hangouts?
