3/10 Classic quick hits

Kosuke Fukudome stopped by HoHoKam Park on Tuesday to say hello to the Cubs players and Lou Piniella. Fukudome and Team Japan are in town to prepare for the second round of the World Baseball Classic.

Piniella said Fukudome will likely bat second in the Cubs’ lineup behind Alfonso Soriano. Other options there are Aaron Miles, Ryan Theriot and Reed Johnson.

Also, infielder Corey Koskie, whom the Cubs signed to a Minor League deal, was expected to join the team on Thursday. He was playing for Team Canada, which was eliminated on Monday. Koskie has not played in the big leagues since suffering a concussion in 2006.

I wonder if Lou has figured out, with all the extra at-bats a leadoff hitter gets over the course of a season, how many extra strikeouts on low and away sliders he should expect from Alf compared to him hitting 4th or 5th like a manager with half a brain. My guess would be about 30.
