Infielder Aaron Miles was not available on Thursday because of a “barking” right shoulder. The soreness could be because Miles has been moving around from second to shortstop to third and having to make throws from the different spot. “Three different throws is not the easiest thing in the world to do,” Cubs manager Lou Piniella said.
- Corey Koskie was in the Cubs camp, and underwent a physical on Thursday. The Cubs hope to get a good look at the infielder, who has not played since suffering a concussion in 2006.
- Piniella did not take a hot air balloon ride on Wednesday’s off day because he would have had to get up at 5 a.m. That’s not happening on an off day.
