Rich Harden was scratched from Friday’s game because of the flu, and was so sick, he couldn’t throw a side sesson on the back field. Harden was sent home to recuperate. If he recovers, he could start Tuesday when the Cubs play host to the Rockies. That would’ve been Ted Lilly’s spot, but he’s still with Team USA in the World Baseball Classic. Lou Piniella said he felt Harden still has enough time to prepare for the regular season.
Other news and notes:
- Derrek Lee had been expected to be ready by Friday, but now most likely will not see any game action until Sunday. He’s been out with a sore right quad.
- Both Carlos Marmol and Kevin Gregg will pitch on Friday, and Piniella said he will likely announce the closer by the middle of next week. “I’m not leaning one way or the other,” Piniella said. “We’ll let it play itself out here over the next couple appearances and then we’ll make a decision on that.”
- Sean Marshall found out from a friend who sent a text message that he won the fifth starter spot. “I know there’s room for me to improve and I’ll take this opportunity and do the best of it,” Marshall said.

Lee should take as much time as he needs…DON’T HURRY BACK. We may be getting a sneak peak at a Pinella preferred line up with Haufpaur getting the start at first today.
Right on Joeydafish, don’t hurry back Dlee. Hoffenpauir rocks. Fontenot, Hooffenpauir, Miltamud Badimin Ali, Fukadome all of a sudden we have plenty of left handed sticks.
DeRosa will be playing 1b for team USA since Adam Dunn is atrocious on D, as in DH.
Did the Astro’s win yet? 19 L’s in a row last I heard. Maybe they should sign Clemens.
