The Athletics will be using a designated hitter on Wednesday in Phoenix but not the Cubs — and that’s not an April Fool’s joke. Carlos Zambrano, making his final tune-up before the season opener on Monday in Houston, is pitching and batting ninth. It’ll be LF Alfonso Soriano, 2B Aaron Miles, 1B Derrek Lee, RF Milton Bradley, 3B Aramis Ramirez, CF Reed Johnson, C Geovany Soto, SS Ryan Theriot, and Big Z.
