Instant offense

Before the game, Lou Piniella was saying the Cubs need to get their offense going. Well, they batted around in both the first and second innings, and Mike Fontenot has matched his career RBIs high after two at-bats. Fontenot has four RBIs so far; he also drove in that many May 3, 2008, against St. Louis.

Speaking of Lou Piniella: I am just now watching the end of the 8th against the Brewers in MIL. Why is Lou (Yep, they’re cheering “Booo,” not “Looooou!”) sending in relievers to face one batter at a time? If he wants to experiment with the bullpen, a late-inning 1-run lead is not the place to do it. Especially considering he jerked the starter when Hardin was on fire. Damn the “percentages.”

I’d like to start a thread, inviting comments from Chicagoans for their opinions of Piniella.

personally i think Lou has really turned around this club most of the time for the better…the reason Harden was taken down regardless of what he was doing was his pitch count. Lou knew he was nearing 100 and took him out because he knows a tired arm is more likely to reinjure Harden in the long run. The season has a LONG way to go and we need Harden to be in the games and be able to compete and not on the bench with and injury to take a thrid straight division title. I believe if Woody was in there pitching for 4 outs instead of gregg we would have won that game but you can blame hendry for getting rid of him.
