6/26 Bradley update

Milton Bradley was pulled from Friday’s game after apparently exchanging some words with Lou Piniella in the dugout. Bradley was replaced in right field in the sixth by Ryan Freel. Bradley was called out on strikes in the first, struck out swinging in the fourth, and flew out to left in the sixth.

Piniella originally wanted to sit Bradley against White Sox starter Jose Contreras because of the switch-hitting outfielder’s struggles from the left side. He entered the game batting .205 against right-handed pitchers.

Imagine that….Bradley being a problem.

Two guys the Cubs need to move without worrying about the millions they’ve invested: Milton Bradley (a clubhouse CANCER, a psychopath, and more generally: a big baby), and Alfonso Soriano: can’t run the bases, can’t play defense anywhere, only swings hard in the lead-off spot (“I’m a big baby, I gotta hit FIRST!!”); that much we knew when he was coming in, but now he can’t hit either…so he’s useless. Get rid of these guys and who cares what comes back. They’re just suckin’ the Cubs down.

oh Milton Bradley having problems now that is news owait.

How could the Cubs think that signing Bradley was even close to a good idea …what a bust

I agree, Cubs need to eat Bradley and Soriano’s contract and release or trade them but who would want either of their contracts. Need to go after Matt Holliday and Brian Roberts and possibly George Sherrill for closer.

JH THOUGHT it was a good idea… just one of his moron moves again

I wonder if Lou though MB was “hot-dogging it” after his diving/rolling catch and raising his hands toward the sky. I think he was simply thankful he caught the ball, as a few of his dives have resulted in hits and runs instead of outs. I am just speculating at this point. it will be interesting to see what it was all about.

I agree that Bradley should go, but although Soriano is struggling when he was hot earlier in the year he was the only reason the cubs were winning games. He has been bad but when he is good there is no better hitter. Bradley is just bad.

There should be a court order to try to get some of their (Soriano, Bradley, & Fukudome) salary back.

not bad… HORRIBLE

I think they should bench Soriano and Bradley and play Hoffpaur and Fox..atleast they look like they are trying to hit

The Cubs HAVE to get rid of Bradley! I think everyone is in agreement that the biggest mistake of the last off-season was the release of Derosa and the acquisition of Bradley (I know that one wasn’t traded for the other).

I say get rid of Bradley and do anything in your power to get Derosa back! Bradley continues to drop/miss pop flies and his hitting is getting worse!

GET DEROSA BACK!!!!!!!!!! AND GET RID OF BRADLEY!!!!!!!!!!

we would like Dro, but man the more pressing issue is just get rid of MB

milto bradley should go play with the toys he was names for and forgot about trying to be something he will never be
atleast learn to count to 3

I don’t understand how Piniella has managed to stay so calm this season with all the errors and poor baseball that has been played….its gettin tough to watch the games anymore because it just seems like the Cubs are inventing ways to lose ballgames

PLEASE STOP TALKING ABOUT GETTING DEROSA BACK! HE’S GONE! Why would the Indians trade him back? And for better or worse, Bradley’s not going anywhere. Stop hoping the Cubs dump him and start praying that he begins to hit…and field…and remember how many outs there are…Heaven help us!

I agree that MB is a problem but I give him credit for one thing he does hustle & dive for balls. AS does not hustle & is hurting the Cubs in a big way. Yesterday is a prime example with the Cubs leading 3-0 & AS on first DL hits a long ball to deep left field & the Tigers left fielder catches the ball & AS is dragging his butt around 2nd base & did not hustle until is was too late. The Cubs were looking good but after that happen the air went out of the balloon. JFox hustles his butt off & has made pretty much all the plays. It makes me sick to see a kid like JF busts his butt & has to sit to watch AS. If you ask me I would take JF anyday in left field than AS. That AS contract will kill the Cubs down the road & is starting to show majors signs that it is happening already. We need to get DeRosa back. BTW can anyone tell me why we signed Aaron Miles to a two-year contract? That also was a huge mistake.

man they need to get rid of Hendry and pinella Lou has no emotion he doesn’t have that fire in him like he did before you don’t see him get mad even after a loss soriano is a bum and a bust and bradley can’t handle chicago he needs some antidepressants to calm him down or maybe do a geo soto and smoke one lol

OK, now we heard LP say it was for throwing his helmet and smashing a cooler. . Lou has finally decided he is tired ofsuch antics….except from Big Z and Soriano and a host of others. So he fires on Bradley, and then says he is sorry the whole thing happened. He said afterward he is not into discipline and MB will be in the lineup tomorrow. I sure hope he told them all B4-hand he was tiring of the tirades. Otherwise MB becomes the scape-goat. Next Stone and Hawk jump all over MB’s reputation in post-game comments. I will await further comment until details become clearer, but this thing smells ‘foul” to me at present.
Bradley has not played well, but he is a competitor. I sure hope he is not being singled-out to show that Lou still has some fire. Those who say the guy can’t hit have to look at his stats in years gone by to realize how ridiculous that theory is.

someone please help me understand how a person can leave his team in the middle of the game, it doesnt matter who what or why, you don`t turn your back on the same players who, win or lose are out there playing 100%.

Milton Bradley is the WORST $30 million the Cubs have ever spent! Y’all PLEASE get DeRosa back! We are beggin you.

I think Bradley would be a great ASSett, maybe just give him to the Royals… call it a gift eat the contract. Maybe Milton needs some Prozac to level him off.
I am not too worried about the infield. Blanco needs time to hit, but the glove is stellar.
I think that we could package Gregg and a prospect or two and get George Sherril from the O’s. I think he is a player who would invite coming to the cubs and play like a champion.
I know ball is their job. But i also wish the pros out there would look at what they have and enjoy it.
I hate to see Big Z quit at the end of his contract, but i will say, good job. Enjoy your life. You worked hard for the time you worked and made enough to quit young and enjoy what you earned. If he does it more power to him. If more pros had the attitude of play hard and quit on top all sports would have alot of different different look and feel.

Bradley is a big baby and a mediocre player. BRING BACK DEROSA!
We also have to remember that Soriano has been playing injured. He’s been working with the batting coach because the pain is effecting his swing. He’s not doing well, but I wouldn’t say to get rid of him. Just don’t have him lead off or put Micah in instead.

I think it’s time for Hendry to be fired. This team he’s assembled is a bust. Hendry relied far too much on stats rather than knowing the individual. Stats won’t show how limited a player’s potential is or how his chemistry will impact a team, you take bradley with his pinchant for rubbing team mates the wrong way and we have quite a problem in waiting. This is only one of the bad scenarios that could have played out. There are far worse ones that could still happen. But back to Hendry, he has continued to blame others for poor execution….ie Dusty, Kerry, and DeRosa….now it’s his turn to belly up to the bar and accept his tab!!!

im a big cubs fan and one thing i hate about us cubs fans is that if you arent doing good we say get rid of him. this by far is bradleys worst year. what if we get rid of him and he kicks a**. and soriano will get hot we all know that so stop worrying. and as for the derosa comments i have some news. sence this is midseason and he is expected to get paid 2.2 mill for the rest of the season the cubs are talking to the indians about getting derosa back. will it happend? prolly not, but that is the rumor.

I agree time to do something with Milton Bradley all that money spent for noting how about Matt Holiday move Koskie to right Reed when he gets off d.l. center and Holiday left Soriano like they been talking about it, second base and put him down at six spot or better yet why not these young guns brought up from AAA stick with them they got more hart then these players with big contracts, boy Jim you and who ever else had these crazy ideas to bring in Bradley……….

I totally agree with the previous comment, soriano will get hot we have seen it before, but bradley might get better and kick a** but he is such a problematic player that i don’t see how it is worth it.

Milton Bradley is a cancer! Get rid of him. And I know I will probably drop jaws when people read this, but I say good bye to Big Z as well. He’s just as bad as Bradley. He’s a head case. How effective is he when things start going bad for him? He’s all over the plate, he totally loses his cool and composure. He tries to excuse his nutty behavior by using the “I’m just competitive” line, and now he says “I’m done after my contract runs out” Oh, o.k., thanks for letting us know your mind set. Leave now and make a spot for someone who has his heart and soul in his team. Next point: Soriano not hustling for anything — the balls in the outfield or running out a ground ball, or running the bases. Man, it’s pathetic. I’m disgusted with this team right now. Why? Because it’s not a team; it’s an group of guys that are not blended together because of all the crappy attitudes that are in the club house. And oh, by the way, either send Marmol down or sit him down until he can learn how to throw strikes. Mitch Williams reincarnated.

Bradley may get better, but the key word in that statement is MAY. Bradley has a history of pissing off coaches, players, and everyone else around him and then blaming the MLB for his problems. It’s never his fault and that’s what makes him a poor player.
I’m not in the “Get rid of a player when they have a bad game” club. And I think we should give Soriano a little bit of a chance to get back on his feet before anyone starts seriously talking about getting rid of him.
Honestly, I think that Lou’s to blame for this poor season. Having played softball for twelve years, I understand how the dynamics of a team works. You have to understand how the person next to you works. You need to trust your fellow players on the field to help you out in a tight situation. When a coach is constantly moving people in and out of positions and moving around the batting order you don’t have the opportunity to get into a decent rhythm. Lou won’t leave the line-up alone. If he gives these guys a chance to play together for more than a couple games, I bet we’d all see a vast improvement.

look at hendry offseason moves why is aron miles and fotenot still in the lineup Hendry needs to bite the bullet and just resign they need a whole new set of coaches get rid of rothschild and von joshua bring in sutcliffe or greg maddux as a pitching coach, sandberg or grace as a hitting coach

Lets get real here folks. We all knew how horrible our moves the last two seasons were. One, we NEED DERO BACK!! Do whatever to get him. Next, Soriano is horrible. He refuses to hustle. He is a horrible fielder. He strikes out 50 times for every HR. Just a losing ballplayer who can hit the HR once in a while. Put Jake Fox in Left and forget about it. If nobody wants AS waive him. Kosuke is a hustler but doesn’t seem to be able to hit in the major leagues. Start Reed Johnson in CF when he is back. He is too good to sit behind Kosuke. Next, dump MB and nip that huge mistake in the bud. He is a problem and just isn’t getting it done. Put Hoffpaur in RF and forget about it. Lastly, as much as I hate to say it Marmol needs some time in AAA to get his control back. Unfortunately, when Rami comes back it looks like Fontenot needs some time at Iowa to work his stroke out too. It hurts to say that because he is one of my favs and I thought he was ready to start.

Let’s put the blame where it belongs- Jim Hendry- let’s see, he brought in 12 new players after last year- 4 REMAIN! Bradley, Miles, Gregg, and who cares- Hendry sucks- his last good move was Aramis Ramirez- should’ve let Zambrano go- he sucks and he’s a total headcase- he’ll never realize his potential- let go of Wood for Gregg? Miles for DeRosa? Henry Blanco for Bako???? Marquis replaced by Marshall? Soriano???? This guy’s a GM? As for Pinella- he’s washed up- he has no fire- dragon or not- players do not fear him in the sense that if they do poorly, their job is still secure. Look at Girardi sitting A-Rod, and Ozzie G. will sit anybody who screws up. Hendry and Pinella must go- as far as Zambrano, Bradley, and Soriano go- the cubs are stuck with their HUGE contracts for a long time to come.

that comment about sending marmol back down is just crazy bacause last year marmol went through the same thing he will be like that into the all star break every pitcher can get into a funk last year after the all star break he was lights out

I’m surprised he went this long before Pinella said anything. You know Lou wanted to strangle his *** after the Twins game. Probably more so for hot-doggin thatn anything else. With his numbers he can’t hotdog anything.

Soriano isn’t much better – what a horrible fielder, lousy baserunner and putrid arm.

I am an Indian Am. League fan & Cub NL fan.

Always liked Bradley’s talent and detested his personality, even his body language when nothing is wrong. Every time he joins a new team, we wonder how long it will take. For the Cubs in 2009, I picked All-Star time, so Miltie actually beat my prediction by a bit. There will be a GM somewhere who will want to try him but for the life of me, I don’t know why any organization would want him.

And by the way, you guys can get DeRosa back after mid-year. Funnier things have happened. Heck, we once got Rocky Colavito back!

And so it begins.

And so it begins.

It was a matter of time when Bradley would draw the ire of Sweet Lou, I feel Lou has been biting his cheek from venting his frustration of the teams hitting woes as well as Milton’s lack of hitting. I have no clue as to why Lou and Milton had words but was a matter of time ones frustration or the others would cave in and tempers would flare> I feel this could lead to a spark in Milton but also could further alienate Milton, I think the ladder here. Lou is a great manager of baseball but is even as great at managing personalities of that team. He lets players be themselves until the time he needs to rein them in with tough love. There is still lots of baseball left to play and surely Bradley will not go an entire season batting just around .200. At the same time, i agree the Dero trade for virtually nothing in return was to me a little weird. Yes the Cubs didnt hit when the playoffs rolled around but it was just three big games, how did the hit over the regular season? I remember the righty dominant lineup lapping the NL! Change here and there was possible but seemed to me an overhaul for the sake of a few lefties in lineup who as of right now are not panning out. Dero is GONE for good so people need to move on, guess who IS HERE, the future in Fox, Hoffpauir, Wells, and Blanco. Play the youth! Hoff and Fox look like a huge future for Cubs and Andres Blanco is a solid middle infielder. I like the future of the Cubs but as for now wait and see. Hendry need not mortgage the future any longer with players with unknown futures. Short term Bradley IS our future and like it or not he is here for a while. Support him and he WILL come around!

Lou is losing control of this team. His press conferences are one long and lethargic rag with Lou washing his hands of responsibility and bad-mouthing his players in a passive-aggressive sort of way. How is it that almost EVERYONE on the team is under-performing?

I’m a true Cubs fan. I Stand behind those, they have compiled for me to cheer for. Sometimes it ain’t easy. Concerning Bradley, he is obviously very passionate about the game he plays. I like that. And takes pitches.
Concerning Alphonso, I’d have him in my office to view together a compilation fielding errors caused by little jump. i’d tell him out it goes or you sit. period.
Jake Fox and Micah are doing a great job. I could see getting rid a D Lee and Aramis. Derrek tires me with the GO’s and DP’s. Aramis is injury prone. I’ll bet he becomes quite frail for rest of career.
You gotta love Hendry and Piniella ’cause they know as I know the Cubs will be sitting atop the division at the end of season.
Forget Derosa and bring back Wood

Forget Derosa and bring back Wood

The difference between Wood and DeRosa is that Wood wanted to leave. He knew his contract was up and by the time the All-Star break came last year he knew he would be leaving. He was even quoted as saying he was going to have fun the second half of the season and not take it too seriously because he was leaving.
Directly from an Associated Press article …
“I kind of saw this coming before the All-Star break and really kind of took that as my last year and had fun with it in the second half of the season, kinda knowing this would be my last stint here,” Wood said. “I had a great time last summer.”
DeRosa was sold. He didn’t want to leave and wants to come back. Wood was a fantastic closer, it’s where he always should’ve pitched. He was a great asset for the team but he was looking to leave. He could’ve cared less about the Cubs at the end of last season. DeRosa loves Chicago and the Cubs.
From the same Associated Press article …
“I don’t have any bitter feelings. It was out of my control,” DeRosa said. “I didn’t agree with the trade at the time and it was disappointing because I felt like I had become really comfortable being on this team.”

DeRosa said he’d circled the three-game interleague series at Wrigley since he saw it, has stayed in touch with some of his former teammates and still follows what they’re doing so far during a disappointing season.

“I talk to these guys all the time,” DeRosa said.

“It’s a special place to play, the fans are special. I haven’t been anywhere else that even comes close to it.”

I think that says it all.

I thoroughly agree with the disappointed and frustrated
fan who cannot stand having a nonproductive Milton Bradley.
Mark DeRosa was the sparkplug and glue that truly kept the
Cub team functioning as a cohesive unit! Trading off his 5M$
salary to acquire a useless 30M$ one whose personality is not
attuned to teamwork or success for the whole rather than the
individual was the worst mistake Cubs’ management has made since the oft lamented Curt Flood disaster decades ago!
