7/2 Lineup & quick hits

Alfonso Soriano was given another day off Thursday, and Sam Fuld was in the Cubs’ lineup and leading off. It’ll be LF Fuld, SS Theriot, 1B Lee, RF Bradley, 3B Fox, CF Fukudome, C Soto, 2B Fontenot, and P Dempster.

Soriano will be back at the leadoff spot on Friday for Game 2 against the Brewers.

“He’s been working with our hitting coach on his approach,” Lou Piniella said. “We need Soriano to hit. Period.”

Soriano hasn’t let his struggles affect his demeanor.

“He has struggled,” Piniella said. “You look at what other teams have done, like the Red Sox with [David] Ortiz to rest him, the Yankees with Alex [Rodriguez], [Jimmy] Rollins with Philadelphia. We’re giving [Soriano] a few days off to see if we can get him going. I’ve got every confidence he will.”

* Jeff Baker, the newest Cub, was stuck in traffic getting to Wrigley Field.

* Aramis Ramirez begins his rehab Friday with Class A Peoria. Reed Johnson will go with Ramirez, too, and after playing three games in the Minors, they’re both expected to be activated on Monday. Angel Guzman will continue his rehab at Triple-A Iowa on Friday.

“I told him to do what you’re capable of doing, and we’ll be pleased with that,” PIniella said. “We don’t want to put pressure on Aramis.”

I think Sam Fuld is one heck of a ballplayer. I still remember that catch he made year before last in the pennant race. Now, he is hitting too!! We need hungry, young hustlers like him!!

Also, he has me and Ronny’s disease, Type 1 Diabetes. What a gamer!!

Why is Soriano coming back at lead off? Let him come back anywhere else. How much can this guy be bitching behind the scenes to still be batting lead off?
