7/5 All-Star update

Ted Lilly will be the Cubs’ lone representative in the All-Star Game on July 14 in St. Louis. He was selected by Phillies manager Charlie Manuel, the NL skipper this year, and will be one of two lefties on the roster, joining Johan Santana.

Derrek Lee finished eighth in the balloting among NL first basemen, receiving 542,371 votes. Ryan Theriot also was eighth among NL shortstops with 718,058 votes, and Geovany Soto was eighth among catchers with 756,900 votes. Aramis Ramirez, who missed two months with a shoulder injury, was seventh among NL third basemen with 878,993 votes.

Alfonso Soriano was vying for his eighth trip to the All-Star Game, but fell short. He finished fourth among NL outfielders with 2,692,994 votes. Kosuke Fukudome was 20th with 828,796, and Milton Bradley 23rd with 695,729 votes.

Even considering Soriano for the All-star game is pretty far fetched. FOr next week, the Cubs better look real hard at keeping Jake Fox on the roster. I know we’re paying Soriano big bucks but who’s producing? So long Sam Fuld. You are a good kid wit potential, but you;re not gonna be on the roster once Ramirez and Reed come back. Sad to say, but he’s a good outfielder and Soriano IS NOT.
