No De-Ro

Mark DeRosa fans will be crushed. DeRosa was placed on the disabled list, retroactive to July 1, with a strained left wrist and won’t be playing for the Cardinals in the upcoming weekend series vs. the Cubs.

I know this is bad but Im glad he won’t be playing against the cubs. I hate for the guy to be hurt because Im a huge fan but the cubs made a huge mistake trading him and they dont need any more salt in the wound.
The cards have a very strong line up so the cubbies need to continue to FINALLY play good baseball if they are gonna catch em.

I don’t know, honestly a little salt in the wound may cause enough reaction to get Hendry fired, hopefully getting somebody more competant in there to TRY to unload all of Hendry’s mistakes: Fukodome, Bradley, Soriano, Gregg, Baker, Miles c’mon…who am I missing??? Those are the definates some may question the contracts given to Zambrano and Dempster considering they are not Cy Young caliber or even lights out type of pictures. Oh yeah and Heillman? Harden? I’m just hoping for a new owner with some common sense, enough at least to bring in some better choices as GM than Hendry. Bring on the salt.

Getting Fukudome and Soriano was not a mistake. Dempster was Cy Young quality last season going 17-6 and making the All- Star Team. What about Zambrano’s no hitter last season against the Astros at Miller Park ? Harden was spectactular last season going 10-2 to with the Cubs after getting traded by Oakland. The one big mistake hendry made was trading DeRosa. Other than that he has done fine as the GM.

I totally do NOT agree with you joeydafish. You are blowing it out of proportion.

GO CUBS GO !!

I accidently submitted it twice

I’m a huge De-Ro fan and can’t help but chuckle at the irony that Hendry would deal one of his most versatile and consistent players in the off-season only to see his team crippled by injuries and personal slumps all through the first half of the year.

That said, I think that Fukodome has remained consistent this season, Bradley has been swinging better, and Soriano will come out of his hitting slump. I hate Zambrono, but he has proven that he can win cames and be dominant. Same with Dempster. Yea, their contracts (especially Zambrono’s, with his antics) may be north of their worth, but what other starters are available to the Cubs at a decent asking price? We might have to give up another Mark DeRosa to get one of them.

Well cubsfanvt I totally disagree with you that Hendry has done a fine job, I do however want to clarify that I am more upset with the CONTRACTS that Hendry gave these players more so than the players themselves, and that I believe is what makes him an inferior GM, he handcuffs the field manager with one dimensional players that lack defensive skills, and signs them to contracts that are too long, he tends to reward players for their past performances and buckles under his own pressure to keep them on the team rather than risk losing them by offering shorter term deals.
I can see Zambrano having much more upside and warranting the risk of a long term contract, stil not a an elite pitcher until he gets his act together, but Soriano’s, Fukdome’s and Bradley’s contracts are just plain too much.
But, to each their own opinion and I can see some argument for Hendry getting us consecutive winning seasons but I still think this roster relys more on the luck of staying healthy and balls being hit right at Soriano and Bradley so they don’t have to “make the play”. These guys came with well known baggage and Hendry still signed them when more viable options were available. On the bright side, under Hendry’s watch their seems to be quite a bit of talent in the minor leagues that can help, the thing is maybe Hendry should have put more stock in HIS minor league system, save some money on position players and free up money for the entire pitching staff. It seems to me Hendry overlooked his own system, a good GM knows what he has available before handing out tons of money and years to over-rated free agents (His entire outfield).
I still don’t see how you think getting Soriano and Fukodome was not a mistake, especially Soriano, his poor plate discipline, his inferior defense, his aging legs, AND the EIGHT YEAR CONTRACT???? At least Fukodome can play defense, yet his offense is certainly not what Hendry advertised. If this was the last year of both of their contracts I think the club’s future would be much brighter.
