7/10 Soto to DL

Cubs catcher Geovany Soto will be placed on the 15-day disabled list on Friday, retroactive to Tuesday, because of a left oblique strain and could be sidelined a month. Soto was injured during batting practice Wednesday. The Cubs have not made a corresponding move. They also are looking outside of the organization to add a backup catcher. They’ll be a man short on Friday in the series opener against the St. Louis Cardinals. Koyie Hill is starting at catcher, and Jake Fox is the emergency backup.

another injury the story for the cubs all season. whats next soriano catches a ball and oh my hits too

I heard an interview with Hendry on the radio this morning, or maybe yesterday and he stated that the Cubs have one of the best trainers around (I paraphrase). If that’s the case and you have one of the best managers around (Hendry’s thoughts, after all he signed Pinella) and Hendry thinks himself to be a very good GM (Puhlease!!!) then how can the team find themselves a player short (especially a catcher) for the first, very important game with a first place division rival no less the CARDINALS? Nobody knew yesterday that Soto was going to be DL’d? Did they just wait “to see what happens” thinking that Soto would have a miraculous 24 hr. recovery? Even it they didn’t bring up a catcher….ANY EXTRA BODY WOULD BE HELPFUL! Sam Fuld comes to mind if you need a stolen base, pinch runner, outfield defensive replacement (Soriano, Bradley) etc.
I don’t get the management of this team this year, especially Hendry. This is too goofy.
