7/12 Game 1 lineup & Lee
First baseman Derrek Lee was not in the lineup for Game 1 of the Cubs-Cardinals day-night doubleheader at Wrigley Field Sunday. Lee had to come out of Saturday’s game because of neck spasms, and was to receive treatment all day. He could be at first base for Sunday’s second game, which starts at 7:05 p.m. CT. Lee was batting .281 with 17 homers, two more than he had by the All-Star break a year ago.
Aramis Ramirez, activated from the disabled list last Monday, also was not in the lineup for the first game but was expected to play in the second.
The lineup for the first game will have Alfonso Soriano batting third for the Cubs. It’ll be CF Kosuke Fukudome, SS Ryan Theriot, LF Soriano, 1B Micah Hoffpauir, 3B Jake Fox, RF Milton Bradley, 2B Jeff Baker, C Koyie Hill and P Carlos Zambrano.
* This will be the third time Soriano has batted third this year.
“I was a little surprised,” he said. “We’ll see what we can do.”
He’s getting used to not batting leadoff.
“It’s more important for me to be in the lineup,” Soriano said.
* Sunday’s day-night doubleheader is the sixth split twinbill in the last 42 seasons for the Cubs, and third between the Cubs and Cardinals. The Cubs lost both games in a day-night twinbill on Aug. 31, 2002, and split a doubleheader Sept. 2, 2003.
The two rivals last played a day-night doubleheader on Sept. 15, 2007, at St. Louis. The last doubleheader of any kind at Wrigley Field was Aug. 3, 2006, between the Cubs and Diamondbacks.
