9/4 Cubs claim RHP Diamond
The Cubs have claimed right-handed pitcher Thomas Diamond off the waivers from the Rangers. He will join Triple-A Iowa’s roster.
Diamond was 2-3 with a 4.20 ERA in 38 games with Double-A Frisco and Triple-A Oklahoma this season. He missed time in early May because of right shoulder tendinitis. A first-round pick in the 2004 Draft, Diamond was named the Nolan Ryan Minor League Pitcher of the Year in ’05 after going 13-4 with a 3.53 ERA at Class A Bakersfield and Frisco.

Can he play left, center, right or second base???
Can he GENERAL MANAGE?????
What’s with Gordon Whitmeyer today? His article is explaining that Soriano is not the number one issue with the Cubs and he’s a good guy, doesn’t complain, got us to the playoffs THE LAST TWO YEARS…YADA, YADA, YADA Gordon. We ALL KNOW THAT, but don’t paint a picture like he deserves all the money he’s getting, our sympathy AND support. What a ringing endorsement your article is…”Hey everyone, look at our great left fielder/DH, he lacks talent but HE’S NOT THE BIGGEST PROBLEM ON THE TEAM!! WOO HOO!!! GO ALFONSO!! ATTA BOY!!! After all it’s got to be US FANS causing the problems with this team, we are so demanding of players EXPECTING them to be able to CATCH A BALL!! Hey Gordon, should we all get behind and rally around Jim Hendry too because he’s not the leagues worst general manager…???….uh, never mind.
Diamond is a solid claim; he has a VERY live arm but has had control issues. Especially since he had Tommy John.
