9/17 Harden to be skipped

The Cubs will skip Rich Harden in the rotation, and insert lefty Tom Gorzelanny, who will get the assignment Monday against the Milwaukee Brewers. Harden took the loss Wednesday against the Brewers, giving up five runs on five hits over three innings. A free agent to be, Harden also may miss a second turn as well and not start in San Francisco Sept. 26.

“There’s nothing wrong with him,” Lou Piniella said of Harden (9-9, 4.09 ERA). “This will freshen him up a little bit.”

Sigh. I want him to do well, but he’s such a frustrating player to follow as a fan! A friend of mine posited the other day that Harden spent so many years pitching with pain, he doesn’t actually know how to handle a ball when he’s healthy. How’s that for a depressing theory?
