9/24 Lee's neck pains
Derrek Lee was pulled from Thursday’s game in the ninth inning after he aggravated the neck problems that have bothered him at times this year. Lee slid into second base in the ninth after drawing a leadoff walk and then scored on Jeff Baker’s two-run, game-winning homer.
“Every time he slides, I cringe,” Lou Piniella said of Lee. “What happened probably is when he came in, someone tapped him on the head scoring the run in the ninth and I don’t think that helped the situation either.”
Lee’s status was day to day.
