11/3 AFL Rising Stars game
Four Cubs prospects were named to the Arizona Fall League’s Rising Stars game, to be played Saturday night in Surprise. Starlin Castro, Josh Vitters, Andrew Cashner and Blake Parker, who are all playing for the Mesa Solar Sox, were tabbed to play for the East Division team in the game, which will be broadcast on the MLB Network. Cashner, however, was not expected to pitch.

wrigleyguy1980, just curious which pitchers you think the Cubs have done a good job developing from the minor leagues? I’m just intererested in starters or a closer really, all the set up guys are, well, set up guys. I see Randy Wells as a possible well developed starter but I think it will take consecutive good years for any starter to be considered a good. Marmol has yet to qualify as a well developed closer, although that’s more Hendry’s fault (as usual) than Marmol’s. So Wells & Marmol?? Rich Hill, no. Mark Prior? no. Zambrano?.. o.k. I’ll give you Zambrano as being good, but not dominate. It seems Hendry has relied on trades and free agents for both the starting staff and the closer.
I hope too see all these guys in the majors soon. Besides theriot, and soto(had one great year) we haven’t seen any position players that were developed in our farm system come up and dominate in the bigs and I would love to see that. We have done a good job with pitchers though.
