11/3 AFL update
Starlin Castro hit his first homer and added a triple in the Mesa Solar Sox’s 2-1 loss Tuesday to the Peoria Saguaros in Arizona Fall League play. It’s good timing for Castro to get hot. The Cubs brass is in Arizona for the organizational meetings. Castro is batting .429 so far. Third baseman Josh Vitters went 3-for-4, and is hitting .360 for the Mesa team. James Russell and Blake Parker each threw a scoreless inning in relief.

With all the promising young talent supposedly headed to the big leagues, do you think Hendry has the forsight to work some deals involving our few but attractive players such as Ramirez, Lee and Theriot? I would think that is what very good, prodcuctive GM’s do when they see the young guns coming up from the minors. But I know Hendry handicapped himself with no-trade clauses which does not bode well for the organization’s chances to promote from within. Pobably giving Hendry an excuse to trade the young talent for “proven veterans” instead of trading his own “proven veterans” at the deadline. He MUST somehow convince some of these guys to waive the no trades, and then eat some salary, then promote the youth, let them gel and then reap the rewards in 2-3 years….but alas, that is not Hendry’s style, he must ALWAYS put on a display of “winning now” and getting over-rated players from other teams. When is he going to realize that he is not winning anything now but some Central division “titles” (big deal) and some above .500 records? (another big deal).
The roster remains a revolving door of desperate attempts at hits and misses with this guy. It’s a Abbott and Costello routine every year…Who’s in Center? Who’s in Right? Who’s at Second? Who’s the 4th and 5th starters? Who’s the closer?…Who’s you’re Daddy????
