12/8 The latest on Milton

The Cubs may be close to finding Milton Bradley a new home.

There were reports Tuesday that the Cubs have found another American League team — not the Tampa Bay Rays or Texas Rangers — who are interested in the volatile outfielder. GM Jim Hendry has been tight-lipped about the negotiations to the point that he is keeping the majority of his staff out of the talks.

Hendry did meet late Monday with Bradley’s agents, Seth and Sam Levinson, at the Indianapolis Marriott.

A team official denied there would be an announcement Tuesday, but another said there was a possibility they could have word on Wednesday at the Winter Meetings.

One report said the Cubs were talking to the Seattle Mariners, who would like to move pitcher Carlos Silva. The right-hander is 6-18 over the last two seasons, and is owed $23 million over the next two years. But a Cubs official denied the Mariners were in the mix.

It would seem that the Angels might match up because they want to move Gary Matthews Jr., but a team official said Bradley isn’t going to Anaheim.

I never was in the camp that “hated” Bradley. His attitude sucked, but I do believe he tried. It’s sad it’s coming down to this and seeing just how HORRIBLE Bradley’s contract is effecting the Cubs. Considering the amount of money of money owed to Bradley by the Cubs and the rumored trades, the Cubs are going to come out of this whole Bradley situation VERY negatively.

It is pretty sad that this is pretty much coming down to a “mandatory deal” that the cubs have to get rid of Milton Bradley. There was alot of issues concerning Milton that effected the clubhouse and organization. Milton didn’t produce the type of stats or numbers Hendry had thought when he had signed Milton and along with the huge issues, it was just a really huge upset and bust for the organization and Cub nation. If they were to trade Milton to Tampa Bay, I think it would be huge if they could land a pitcher like Matt Garza if at all possible or like they have speculated, adding Pat Burrell to the outfield but i’m sure his defense is being analyzed as he did have only 2 defensive starts for Tampa Bay last season.

I don’t think landing Matt Garza or Pat Burrell would be huge considering the amount of money the Cubs paid for Milton Bradley. Both are sub-par players.

Matt Garza would be infinitely better than Pat Burrell because he would be much preferred to occupy the #5 starter position over someone like Jeff Samardzija or Grozelanny.

cubbybear515, how can you be sure Burrell’s defense is being analyzed? Defense didn’tn seem to be a priortity when Hendry targeted either Soriano and Bradley. Maybe it’s because even Hendry knows he would appear a laughingstock with an outfield of Soriano in left, Fukodome in center and Burrell in right? Ha!, that would be funny!
Burrell straight up for Bradley would still be better than Bradley because Burrell can warm the bench as a PH and occassionally spell Soriano in left and not lose any defense anyway since Soriano is pretty bad. Without Jake Fox (duh) we could use a right-handed pinch hitter. But lookf for Dontrelle Willis in a trade for Bradley? That would be fitting too, Hendry trades Willis just at the onset of his prime (with Florida) and thill get him back when he can’t pitch, all becaues he HAD to accept just about any deal out there for Bradley who should never have been playing left filed for a NL team let alone the Cubs to begin with. Geez Jim, WHAT were you thinking??
