3/6 Blanco out with knee injury

Andres Blanco underwent an MRI on his right knee after suffering a Grade 2 sprain in the sixth inning Saturday. He’s expected to be out seven to 10 days. He apparently got his spikes locked in the infield dirt at HoHoKam Park when he made a play at second base on the White Sox’s Jason Botts. Blanco tried to turn and his cleats locked. Expect more playing time for Darwin Barney and Starlin Castro at shortstop.

That was a little bit of a tough break for Blanco. Hopefully he can get a little more playing time this season. I especially like the youngsters that the Cubs have with them at ST. Castro looks like a good athlete (all of the reports seem to be true) the same with Sam Fuld. The new light version of Geo looks good. He still has a real nice swing. Cashner was impressive today as well. Silvas did OK. he threw the ball with good velocity, he looked strong. Obviously he got hit, but all in all I thought that it was a decent outting for him. Great headline on the “First Steps” article. That’s exactly what it looked like for both Silva and Soriano. Go Cubs 2010!

I agree with lopezja09 about the young kids and hope too that Castro, Fuld and Blanco get more playing time in 2010 but I’m not sure I was watching the same Silva or Soriano.
Good first steps? Silva was rocked and Soriano HAD to dive for a ball that Fuld would have caught on the run, sure it was a good effort by Soriano but neccessitated by his lack of good fielding skills, and the error on a routine bouncing ball? I think even Haffpour would have handle that one cleanly. These two guys are going to be albatrosses for the rest of their tenure with the Cubs.
