3/10 Big Z donates at-bats to Nady
Carlos Zambrano gave up his at-bats on Wednesday so Xavier Nady could get in the Cubs’ lineup. The original plan was to have Nady wait one more day and start as the designated hitter on Thursday. Zambrano was starting Wednesday and Lou Piniella said he didn’t want to take Big Z’s at-bats away from him. But Piniella said Zambrano came into his office and volunteered his at-bats. Nady is coming off his second Tommy John procedure on his right elbow and is working with pitching coach Larry Rothschild on his throwing mechanics. Nady was expected to make the trip to Las Vegas. Said Piniella: ”We’ll start getting his bat in the lineup.”
