4/1 No fooling
Chris Robinson had read the sign in the Cubs’ clubhouse that said players didn’t need to be dressed until noon on Thursday to give them time to pack up their belongings. But the catcher said he felt like he was playing hooky, sitting at home having breakfast instead of being at the ballpark before the sun came up. Then his wife reminded him what day it was.
“She said, ‘Today’s April Fool’s Day,’” Robinson said.
The catcher panicked. He wasn’t sure if they told him noon as a joke, so he jumped in the car and zoomed over to the ballpark.
When he walked into the clubhouse at 9:30 a.m., he was the first to arrive.
