4/2 Nady, Baker & backups
Xavier Nady started in right field Friday night and his right elbow was tested in the first inning. Nady, who is coming off his second Tommy John surgery, had to chase down Justin Upton’s ball that skipped into the right field corner. Second baseman Mike Fontenot did go deep into the outfield for the relay throw.
Lou Piniella said before Friday’s game that he wanted Nady to also play some first base if possible. The only other thing not accomplished on Piniella’s wish list was to have Jeff Baker play in the outfield. Baker was to sub for Soriano Friday.
“We’ll get everybody a little playing time under the lights,” he said.
Saturday’s game, which is the last spring tuneup, will be on WGN TV and WGN Radio. Expect to see a lot of the Cubs’ Minor Leaguers as Piniella gives the regulars a chance to catch their breath before the regular season begins Monday.
