4/6 Minor matters

The Triple-A Iowa Cubs, under new manager Ryne Sandberg, open their season Thursday against Nashville. Sandberg will have quite a pitching staff, including John Gaub, Jeff Gray, Thomas Diamond, Blake Parker, Mitch Atkins, Jay Jackson, Jeff Stevens and Casey Coleman. In the outfield, the Iowa Cubs have James Adduci, Micah Hoffpauir, Brad Snyder, and Sam Fuld, with infielders Darwin Barney and Matt Camp.

Shortstop Starlin Castro, who hit a triple and a double in the final spring game Saturday in Arizona, was assigned to Double-A Tennessee along with pitchers Andrew Cashner, Alex Maestri, Marcos Mateo and Jeremy Papelbon; outfielders Brandon Guyer, Ty Wright and Russ Canzler; and catchers Robinson Chirinos and Steve Clevenger. The Smokies open on the road Thursday at Mississippi.

Brett Jackson, the Cubs’ 2009 No. 1 Draft pick, will open the season at Class A Daytona along with Michael Brenly, Kyler Burke and Josh Vitters. The Daytona Cubs open on Thursday against Brevard County.

Where is Rebel Ridling being assigned?? He tore up Peoria last year.. but isn’t assigned right now. Injured?

Rebel is still with the Cubs but had his appendix taken out in Spring Training and is on the disabled list. He should be back in about a week to 10 days.

Thank you for the reply Carrie! I go to at least 1 Chiefs game a year and enjoyed watching Rebel play. I think he has flown WAY under the radar.. hopefully they push him a little this year.

I agree- Rebel is WAY under-rated! He doesn’t get near enough recognition. Go REBEL!
