4/10 Silva & rotation update
Carlos Silva is scheduled to start next Friday when the Cubs open a three-game series against the Astros at Wrigley Field. Silva did have some soreness in his right shoulder on Friday, which is why he was pulled after throwing 71 pitches in six innings.
He told the media his shoulder was fine but Lou Piniella says Silva told pitching coach Larry Rothschild and athletic trainer Mark O’Neal that there was soreness. Now, everyone is on the same page after Piniella had a little chat with Silva on Saturday.
“I talked to him and said let’s make sure the I’s are dotted and the T’s are crossed,” Piniella said.
The rotation now will have Ryan Dempster on Monday, Randy Wells on Wednesday, Carlos Zambrano on Thursday, Silva on Friday and Dempster on April 17. Tom Gorzelanny, who will make his first start Sunday, will follow.
Silva was limited to eight games last season because of problems with his right shoulder.

Silva should be headed to the bullpen when Lily returns, he throws strikes consistenly and has experience in the pen. He isn’t in shape to pitch a whole season in the rotation, but out of the pen I think he would do well.
