4/14 Lilly goes four innings for Iowa
Ted Lilly gave up one hit over four innings in a start Wednesday for Triple-A Iowa. The only hit was a solo homer by Tyler Greene in the first. In his outing, Lilly also walked one and struck out four.
He was on a strict pitch count, and pulled after throwing 51 pitches, 31 for strikes. The lefty is coming back from arthroscopic surgery on his shoulder and was to have started last Friday but that was pushed back because of back problems.
“It was fun just being back on the mound,” Lilly told reporters in Des Moines. “Everything went well. I’m pretty sure I’ll feel good when I wake up.”
The Iowa Cubs won, 5-2. Lilly gave way to Jay Jackson, who was the initial scheduled starter, and Jackson gave up two hits over five innings.
On Thursday, the Iowa team faces ex-Cubs pitcher Rich Hill, now with Memphis. Thomas Diamond is slated to pitch for Iowa.
