4/14 Lilly to start at Iowa
Cubs lefty Ted Lilly will make a rehab start Wednesday night for Triple-A Iowa. He was expected to make at least one more before he’s given the go-ahead to join the Cubs rotation.
Lilly is coming back from arthroscopic surgery on his left shoulder and was slowed this spring when he was sidelined with the flu and then missed a Minor League start because of back stiffness. He was expected to throw 60 pitches on Wednesday. If all goes well, Lilly could join the Cubs rotation either in Milwaukee April 23-25, or the next homestand when the Cubs entertain the Nationals April 26-28.
“We had talked about the last week of April being the timetable for him and if everything goes right, that’s exactly when it’ll be,” Lou Piniella said.
Speaking of the rotation, the Cubs have tweaked theirs for the upcoming series vs. the Astros and it’ll be Carlos Silva on Friday, Tom Gorzelanny on Saturday, and Ryan Dempster on Sunday.
