5/5 There's no place like home

Wednesday’s game marked the 15th this season to be decided by two or fewer runs for the Cubs. They’re now 5-10 in those contests.

“We better be able to win with two runs once in a while,” Lou Piniella said.

On Wednesday, they lost, 4-2, to the Pirates and Charlie Morton, who was 0-5 with a 12.57 ERA.

“I thought the way we swung the bats on the end of the homestand, we’d go on the road and it’d be a nice carryover,” Piniella said of his team, which has managed two runs in each of the two games at PNC Park. “We still have four games [on this trip] but the first two games didn’t start the right way.”

The Cubs definitely have had a home field edge. They’ve scored 74 runs in 13 home games compared to 59 runs in 15 road games. And 25 of those road runs came April 23-25 in Milwaukee — a.k.a. Wrigleyville North. Chicago is hitting .297 at home; .256 on the road.

“What are you going to do? I don’t know,” Piniella said. “I don’t have answers for this. There’s just such a disparity between the numbers we put up at home offensively and the numbers we put up on the road. I don’t have an answer for it, I really don’t. There’s a remarkable difference.”

I do, sack Lou and do it now. This team needs inspirational leadership, that sticks to its decision – like to “go with the hot bats…”

Comments from DLee seemed to deride Piniella’s decision to change the line-up, so has Lou lost the clubhouse/players?

In either case, to get to the play-offs this team needs to pulling in one direction, and it clearly isn’t happening.

Last night was an ideal time for the spark and energy of Colvin after Fukudome had gone 0 for 2.

Lou is kind of stuck regarding replacements for both Lee and Ramirez, however I agree with hustlelikereed that what better time than a time when there is nothing to lose (now) to DRASTICALLY shake things up if for nothing else but to show some aging veterans that NO job is safe once you drop below a certain level of production. Can Lou, and bring up Ryno. Lou’s “act” is wearing thin. GIVE Colvin a STARTING job and plug in Soriano/Fukodome once in while…now that is shaking things up. Call up Castro, move Theriot to 2B…SHAKE IT UP LOU!!! And could somebody please find where Hendry is napping???
