5/6 Big Z poised to go back to back
If needed, Carlos Zambrano may be used Thursday, which would be his first back to back relief outings. Zambrano pitched one inning on Wednesday against the Pirates and threw 13 pitches. It was his fourth relief appearance. He has yet to go in consecutive games as the Cubs Opening Day starter is eased into his role as the set-up man.
“He threw the ball well last night, he got loose fairly quick,” Lou Piniella said. “He didn’t throw many pitches. If we need him tonight to win a ballgame, yes, we’ll use him.”
