5/9 Back to back Z's
Carlos Zambrano is getting closer to pitching in back to back games for the first time since moving to the bullpen April 22. Zambrano appeared in Saturday’s game, his fifth relief appearance. The right-hander now has made more relief appearances than starts. Zambrano was moved to the ‘pen after going 1-2 with a 7.45 ERA in four starts.
The Cubs wanted Zambrano to get four or five relief appearances before asking him to pitch in consecutive games.
“He should be [ready],” Piniella said. “He’s been out there now for a couple weeks.”
