5/9 Sunday tidbits

Some early Sunday tidbits:

* The Cubs scored 14 runs on Friday and gave up 14 on Saturday. The last time that happened was June 14-15, 2005. On June 14, they beat the Marlins, 14-0, at Wrigley and lost 15-5 the next day. In the last 17 games since April 21, the Cubs are 9-8.

* Mike Fontenot is the first Major Leaguer to hit his first career grand slam as a pinch-hitter since the White Sox’s Dewayne Wise did so Sept. 14, 2008, against Detroit. Fontenot is the first Cubs player to do so since Michael Barrett on May 28, 2004, vs. Pittsburgh. Fontenot connected on Friday.

Note: Derrek Lee had the last pinch-hit grand slam for the Cubs vs. the White Sox on May 19, 2007, but that wasn’t Lee’s first slam.

* Lou Piniella is two wins shy of 1,800 in his Major League managerial career. With two more wins, he’ll become the 14th manager to reach that milestone.

Derrek Lee had a pinch hit grandslam against the Chicago White Sox at Wrigley field against Boone Logan in 2007. So how is Michael Barrett the last one to hit a grandslam in 2004? Just asking.

It wasn’t Lee’s first career grand slam.
