5/22 Quality starts

Heading into Saturday’s game against the Rangers, the Cubs starters have posted 28 quality starts and are 11-9 with a 2.30 ERA and eight no decisions. Here’s the breakdown with the pitcher, how many quality starts and his record in those games:

Ted Lilly: 4 quality starts, 1-2

Ryan Dempster: 6 quality starts, 1-3

Tom Gorzelanny: 5 quality starts, 2-2

Carlos Silva: 6 quality starts, 4-0

Randy Wells: 5 quality starts, 2-1

Carlos Zambrano: 2 quality starts, 1-1

Lilly notched his fourth quality start (six innings, three runs or less) on Friday yet took the loss. He pitched well enough to win.

“The only thing I’m out there trying to do is win, whatever fashion it takes, I don’t care what it looks like,” Lilly said. “I don’t care how many runs I give up. It doesn’t matter. I’m just trying to win. As long as I win — we win, somehow. I don’t care how many runs we score, how many runs they score, how many hits they get. Wins and losses, that’s all that matters. What it comes down to for me is giving up fewer runs.”
