5/22 Walking Castro to get to Lee
Starlin Castro’s big league career is two weeks old but on Saturday night, the Rangers decided to walk the rookie to face Derrek Lee in the 10th inning. The Cubs had two on and none out at that point in the game and had taken a 4-3 lead.
“They keep doing that, Lee will burn them,” Piniella said.
Lee understood the Rangers’ thinking.
“That’s what they want you to do is get upset, right?” Lee said. “So you have to keep your composure. No matter what the situation, you’re trying to get a hit, get the runs in. That’s the goal.”
Lee did hit a grounder to third base, but the only play was a force at second. A run scored on that play and the Cubs went on to win, 5-4.
