5/24 Minor matters & Wright's honor
Tennessee’s Ty Wright was named the Southern League Hitter of the Week for the week of May 17-23. Wright hit two grand slams during the week and he raised his season RBIs total to 42. It’s not even the All-Star break. For the week, he batted .321 with 13 RBIs, four home runs and three doubles. Wright is batting .291 for the season.
In Minor League games Sunday:
* J.R. Mathes gave up three runs on seven hits over six innings in Iowa’s 11-7 win over Colorado Springs on Sunday. Jim Adduci and Darwin Barney each had three hits and Adduci drove in a season-high four runs.
* Hung-Wen chen gave up three runs on eight hits over six innings in Tennessee’s 4-1 loss to Jacksonville. Wright drove in the only run wiht a double. He now has an RBI in four of his last five games.
* DJ LeMahieu went 4-for-4 in Daytona’s 9-7 loss to Fort Myers. LeMahieu had two RBIs and stole two bases.
* Rob Whitenack gave up three runs on three hits and three walks over six innings in Peoria’s 6-5 win over Quad Cities. With the win, the Chiefs moved into a second-place tie.
