5/25 Cashner PCL pitcher of the week
Andrew Cashner was named Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week for the week of May 17-23. Cashner won two games that week, giving up one run on eight hits over 13 innings. On May 22, the right-hander led Triple-A Iowa to a 1-0 victory over Colorado Springs. He threw seven shutout innings, struck out seven and gave up two singles.
The 23-year-old righty was the Cubs’ first-round Draft pick in 2008. He is 3-0 with a 0.95 ERA this season.

Carrie, who is the person that scouted and suggested signing Cashner? I am sure glad Hendry listened to him/her and wasn’t too busy at the time signing veterans to either no-trade or longer than prudent multi-year deals.
Maybe the wise one has something up his sleeve besides the best interest of the 10 next generations of Soriano’s family and may trade Zambrano and/or Lilly to clear some payroll, open up a spot for Cashner and finally start some sort of youth movement?
Scout Trey Forkerway, one of the Cubs’ area scouts who covers the big state of Texas, is credited with signing/scouting Cashner.
Thanks Carrie, you’re better than Google! Forkerway should be commended. Maybe we’ll see Cashner up in the bigs sooner than anticipated similar to Castro? Hendry’s got to clear some of his baggage/mistakes from the Cubs as he is running out of excuses for the logjam. I suppose that’s the good news we can build on this season, eventually push will come to shove and the roster wil be turned over. And in all fairness, credit Hendry if he signed Forkerway…unless of course he pulled the name from a hat like he does the roster. Bob Howry still a Cub? Where’s Trachsel? Where’s Waldo?
