6/4 Lineup & new leadoff man

Derrek Lee was back in the Cubs’ lineup after being scratched from Wednesday’s game because of a sore right hamstring. Lou Piniella has Marlon Byrd as the leadoff man Friday, the second time the center fielder has been in the No. 1 spot. Byrd also led off April 19 against the Mets. Piniella said he came up with the lineup during dinner Thursday night with his coaching staff while eating some of that day’s catch. Piniella and the coaches went fishing on the off day, taking a boat about 30-40 miles off the Galveston coast.

Here’s the lineup:

CF Byrd

2B Theriot

1B Lee

3B Ramirez

RF Fukudome

LF Soriano

C Soto

SS Castro

P Zambrano

Lou…i know your team stinks but why in the world do you keep batting Lee and Rami in the 3, 4 spots? They have been the two worst hitters on the team this year. I can see it now….lee and rami go 1-9 with 3 K’s, two double plays grounded into and 12 men left on base.

Doesn’t it sort of sound like Lou is already retired?

there is no way ramirez should even be in the lineup and if he is bat him 8th or 9th…

Didn’t Nady get 4 hits the other day? Lou is senile. Even in little league and high school you don’t put your worst hitters in the 3 and 4 spots. It’s just common sense. It’s the story of the Cubs this season. The table is set and the RBI guys end the inning. If he refuses to give the Cubs the best chance to win, he needs to go. Nobody cares what Lee and Ramirez have done in the past. They both suck *** this year. I would be pissed as hell if I had a 4 for 4 day then the old senile manager kept me on the bench for a couple of bums that haven’t hit their weight all year.

What a joke. We all saw it coming but yet Lou throws out the same crap line up everynight. There is no reason to keep this old POS on the bench if he cant see his 3, 4 hitters blow and need to be on the bench. I say we leave Lou in Texas and he can fish as much as he wants.

I don’t really see it as Hendry’s fault at this point. He isn’t batting the worst hitters on the team in the RBI spots day in and day out. Last year Lou did it with Soriano when he kept hitting him lead off. Lots of solo home runs and un-productive fly outs. It’s like Lou doesn’t get it. The only explanation is that he is old and senile. I know he has a WS ring managing, but I’d be willing to bet that when he won that ring in Cincinnati he didn’t have his worst hitters batting 3 and 4. We have a veteran 3rd baseman in Iowa (Chad Tracy) hitting .372. What a slap in the face it is to him when Lou keeps a .150 hitter as the big league 3rd baseman. I am just mad because the Cubs wouldn’t have such a bad record this year if the manager would just pull his head out of his rear and put the best guys on the field!

Vegas, why are you holding back? Tell us how you really feel. :) Although I agree with you about Ramirez and Lee, and there may be a better line-up to put on the feild the fact remains that with this current roster Hendry regurtitated there is NO LINE-UP that will allow the Cubs to contend with the big boys. Might as well bench the veterans that have only a few months left on their contract and start playing all the call ups just to get them experience for next season and that includes bringing up Ryno to respectfully, logically and intelligently lead the youth movement. And I would be remiss if I didn’t mention showing Hendry the door.
