6/6 Cashner ready for set-up role
If there was a bright spot in this weekend’s series against the Astros, it was the emergence of Cubs rookie Andrew Cashner, who could take over the set-up role.
“He looks like he’s comfortable out there and throwing the ball good,” Lou Piniella said. “It’s nice to get a good young arm. Next time out, we’ll put him toward the end of the ballgame.”
Is he ready?
“I feel like I’ve been ready the whole year,” Cashner said.
He’s been working on getting his slider more over the plate. It’s nice to see fastballs ranging from 94 to 98 mph on the radar gun.
“I’m excited to just get in there,” Cashner said.
