6/10 Toyota sign going up
Crews were installing the Toyota sign behind the left field bleachers at Wrigley Field on Thursday, just in time for the weekend Interleague series between the Cubs and White Sox. The Chicago city council approved the 360-square foot sign on Wednesday. The 38-foot high sign will rise above the left field bleachers. As part of the deal negotiated by Alderman Tom Tunney of the 44th Ward, no new signs may be put up over the ballpark for four years. Tunney had protested the sign, saying it was “not in keeping with the character of the neigborhood or with the spirit of the city’s landmark ordinance.” The only rooftop the sign will block is one that does not have an agreement with the Cubs.
