6/14 Minor matters
J.R. Mathes threw six shutout innings, giving up one hit and one walk and striking out four, in Iowa’s 4-0 win over Memphis on Sunday. It was Mathes’ best outing of the season and his seventh quality start. Micah Hoffpauir had two hits and one RBI and Welington Castillo hit a two-run double in the sixth.
Tony Thomas hit a grand slam in the seventh and finished with five RBIs to help Tennessee beat West Tenn, 7-5. Chris Carpenter gave up two runs on four hits over six innings but did not get a decision. Thomas has seven RBIs in his last two games, and has hit safely in 10 of 11 games.
Daytona has been off because of the Florida State League All-Star break and resumes play Monday against Lakeland.
Jeffry Antigua gave up four runs on seven hits over five innings in Peoria’s 7-0 loss to Great Lakes. The Chiefs play at Burlington Monday.
