6/15 Minor matters
Brett Jackson, the Cubs’ No. 1 pick in last year’s First-Year Player Draft, hit for the cycle on Monday, including a two-run walkoff homer in the 11th to help Daytona beat Lakeland, 6-4 in 11 innings. Jackson went 4-for-6 with three RBIs. He’s the first Daytona player to hit for the cycle since Felix Pie did so June 27, 2004.
Thomas Diamond gave up two runs on four hits over five innings in Iowa’s 5-4 win over Round Rock. Diamond is now 5-2 with a 2.34 ERA. Sam Fuld and Matt Camp each had three hits. Brian Schlitter picked up his ninth save.
Hung-Wen Chen threw six scoreless innings to help Tennessee post a 2-1 win over West Tenn. With the win, the Smokies have a 2 1/2 game lead over West Tenn. Also, Chris Carpenter was named Southern League Pitcher of the Week after posting a 1.46 ERA and 1-0 record in two starts last week.
Rob Whitenack gave up three runs on five hits over six innings in Peoria’s 12-5 win over Burlington. Greg Rohan had two hits, including a home run. Matt Cerda had three hits and three RBIs.
