6/17 Minor matters
Mitch Atkins gave up one run on four hits over five innings in Iowa’s 3-2 win over Round Rock. Bryan LaHair and Jason Dubois hit back to back home runs for the I-Cubs, who pulled into a tie for first with Memphis with the win. John Gaub picked up the win in relief.
Brandon Guyer hit two home runs and Russ Canzler, Josh Vitters, Tony Thomas and Marwin Gonzalez homered to power Tennessee to a 13-5 win over Mobile. For Guyer, it was his first multi-homer game of the year. He had three hits, and now has hit safely in nine of his last 10 games.
Brett Jackson had two hits and one RBI but Daytona lost, 4-3, in 10 innings to Lakeland. Chris Rusin gave up two runs (one earned) on five hits over seven innings but did not get a decision. Jackson, the Cubs’ No. 1 pick in 2009, could be moved up to Tennessee this season.
Trey McNutt threw five scoreless innings in Peoria’s 12-7 win over Burlington. McNutt struck out 10 and now is 6-0 with a 1.51 ERA. Francisco Guzman and Nelson Perez each had three hits.
