6/20 Minor matters
Jeff Samardzija and John Gaub combined to throw six shutout innings of relief to help Iowa beat Albuquerque, 3-2, in 14 innings Saturday. Starter Thomas Diamond gave up two runs on four hits over six innings, striking out six. Samardzija and Gaub gave up a total of two hits. Jim Adduci delivered a pinch-hit game-winning single in the 14th.
Chris Carpenter gave up one earned run on five hits over five innings in Tennessee’s 4-3 loss to West Tenn. Despite the loss, the Smokies clinched the first half North Division championship. Ty Wright had three hits and is batting .555 in his last four games. Brandon Guyer homered for the Smokies.
Dae-Eun Rhee gave up two runs on three hits and one walk over six innings in Daytona’s 3-2 win over Dunedin. Mark Reed hit a RBI single for the game-winner in the 11th. Brett Jackson had two hits for his 25th multi-hit game.
Justin Bour homered but it wasn’t enough as Peoria lost to Quad Cities, 7-2. Jeffry Antigua gave up one run on five hits over four innings.
Boise picked up its first win, a 5-3 victory over Yakima. Jesus Morelli had two hits and one RBI.
