6/23 Minor matters
Brad Snyder drove in the winning run in the ninth to lift Iowa to an 8-7 win over Omaha. Jim Adduci and Micah Hoffpauir each homered for the I-Cubs. Brian Schlitter picked up the win in relief. Jeff Samardzija was scheduled to start Wednesday.
Russ Canzler homered to help Tennessee beat Carolina, 4-3, in the first game of the second half. Marwin Gonzalez had three hits.
Chris Archer gave up one run on four hits over 5 2/3 innings in Daytona’s 2-1 win over Lakeland in the first game of a doubleheader. Michael Brenly hit his third homer of the season. Daytona lost the nightcap, 6-4. Chris Rusin gave up four runs on six hits over four innings. Brett Jackson was named Florida State League offensive player of the week for June 14-20 after batting .429 with six doubles, two triples, a home run, seven RBIs and two stolen bases. He was selected to play for the U.S. team in the All-Star Futures Game July 11 in Anaheim.
Trey McNutt gave up three runs on three hits in one inning and took the loss in the East’s 6-2 win over the West in the Midwest League All-Star Game. Hak-Ju Lee went 1-for-2.
Alvaro Ramirez hit a two-run homer and Richard Jones hit a solo shot to help Boise beat Salem-Keizer, 6-2. Jeff Vigurs, taken in the 22nd round of the June Draft, had three hits.
The Mesa Cubs lost their season opener, 6-4, to the Angels. Casey Lambert gave up two hits over two innings and struck out three. Dustin Harrington, selected in the 34th round of the June Draft, had three hits and one RBIs.
