7/1 Minor matters
Iowa shortstop Darwin Barney and pitcher Thomas Diamond were named to the Pacific Coast League All-Star team. Barney leads the league in games played at shortstop and has a .971 fielding percentage. He was batting .289. Diamond was 5-2 with a 2.53 ERA.
Chris Carpenter gave up five hits over five scoreless innings in Tennessee’s 10-3 win over West Tenn Wednesday. Robinson Chirinos hit his eighth homer and drove in three runs and Brandon Guyer had four hits. Brett Jackson had three hits and three RBIs. Tony Campana and Josh Vitters each had two hits.
Campana, Chirinos and Blake Lalli were named to the starting lineup for the Southern League North Division All-Star team. The lineup is subject to change. The three Smokies will join teammates Austin Bibens-Dirkx, Ryan Buchter, David Cales, Hung-Wen Chen and Steve Clevenger on the North Division roster. The game will be played July 12.
Michael Brenly hit his fourth home run in Daytona’s 5-3 loss to Brevard County. Brenley had three hits and has hit safely in seven of his last eight games.
Ryan Searle gave up four runs — two earned — on four hits over five innings in Peoria’s 5-4 loss to Burlington. Matt Cerda and Greg Rohan each had two hits.
Pierre LePage had his third consecutive multi-hit game in Boise’s 7-3 loss to Eugene. In Arizona, Hector Mayora threw four scoreless innings, giving up two hits, in Mesa’s 4-0 loss to the Angels.
