7/7 Schlitter to DL; Atkins up
The Cubs placed reliever Brian Schlitter on the 15-day DL, retroactive to July 3, with a right shoulder impingement and recalled Mitch Atkins from Triple-A Iowa.
Atkins was available for Wednesday’s game in Arizona. This is his second stint with the Cubs; he was recalled from Iowa June 12 but did not appear in a game before he was optioned on June 15. Atkins was 5-2 with one save and a 3.60 ERA in 18 appearances with Iowa.
Schlitter was selected by the Cubs on June 26 and made three relief appearances in his first career big league action, holding the opponent scoreless in his first two outings.
