Does anybody remember which Cubs’ GM traded Scott Downs and for who in return? Downs will become a type A free agent after this year, is have a very good year and has had a good career. I always thought he would have a long career as a Cub but am now wondering if he was dealt for a missing piece to a play off run???

He was traded for Rondell White… according to Baseball Reference.com I believe in 2001.

cubsrotten, thanks for the answer and the website. Rondell White…seems like a pretty reasonable trade at the time. I actually forgot all about the Rondell White “era”.
It was worth the risk I suppose.
