7/15 All-Star tidbits
Marlon Byrd drew a walk, scored a run and recorded an outfield assist in Tuesday’s All-Star Game in Anaheim. He forced out Boston’s David Ortiz at second from right field in the ninth inning of the National League’s 3-1 victory. According to Elias Sports Bureau, Byrd was the first right fielder to throw out a runner from first on a force play at second in an All-Star Game since Al Kaline assisted on a 9-6 putout of Frank Robinson in 1957.
