7/16 Minor matters

Bobby Scales homered and drove in three runs in Iowa’s 7-6, 10-inning loss to Oklahoma City on Thursday. The two teams combined for 29 hits, including 16 by the Iowa Cubs. Casey Coleman gave up four runs on five hits over four innings. Ty Wright and Matt Camp each had three hits.

Rafael Dolis gave up two runs on three hits over five innings in Tennessee’s 15-5 win over Chattanooga. Dolis struck out five. It was his first win since being promoted to the Double-A team. Matt Spencer, Russ Canzler, Robinson Chirinos and Josh Vitters each homered for the Smokies. Chirinos had three hits and five RBIs.

Trey McNutt gave up one unearned run on two hits over five innings in Daytona’s 4-2 win over Fort Myers. McNutt struck out five. Kyler Burke had three hits including his sixth homer. Michael Brenly extended his hitting streak to 14 games and was batting .434 during the streak. His father, Cubs broadcaster Bob Brenly, is in town this week. No word on whether he’ll stay as long as the hitting streak continues.

Nick Struck threw six shutout innings in Peoria’s 3-1 win over Dayton. Struck struckout nine and gave up three hits.

Jesus Morelli and Richard Jones each homered to help Boise beat Salem-Keizer, 10-7. Matt Szczur extended his hitting streak to seven games with three hits. He’s batting .429 during his streak.

Hunter Ackerman gave up three runs on one hit and two walks in 1/3 of an inning and took the loss in Mesa’s 12-6 loss to the Brewers. Jake McAloose and Sergio Burruel each homered.
