7/18 Ouch
Marlon Byrd was hit by a pitch for the 15th and 16th times this season on Sunday, good for second most in the Majors. He was hit in the second and again in the sixth by Phillies ace Roy Halladay. Milwaukee’s Rickie Weeks leads MLB, getting hit 17 times.
Byrd is the first Cubs player to be hit at least 16 times in a season since Frank Chance was hit 17 times in 1905. Byrd is the fourth Cubs player in franchise history to be hit 16 times or more in a single season. Bill Dahlen holds the club record, getting plunked 23 times in 1898.
