7/18 Zambrano updated
Carlos Zambrano will throw a simulated game Monday in Arizona and could pitch for Triple-A Iowa either Tuesday or Wednesday. Zambrano has been working out in Mesa at the Cubs’ facility since last Thursday following treatment for anger issues. He is currently on the restricted list. Last Thursday, he threw 25 pitches on the side. Zambrano told the Cubs that he had been working out while undergoing treatment.
When he does return, the right-hander will be assigned to the bullpen. He has not thrown in a game since June 25 when he lasted one inning against the White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field and then threw a tantrum in the dugout, accusing his teammates of not playing behind him. He was suspended for three days and then placed on the restricted list.
